Ferrari submitted a request to the FIA and their fellow teams to allow Michael Schumacher to test their car before the European Grand Prix on the 23rd August.
Several teams, including Williams and Red Bull have objected to this, as it is a blatant breach of the new testing rules.
The main objection comes from the comparison of this situation to the situation that Alguersuari faced ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, he was granted no testing time.
As a result of this objection Schumacher is not allowed to test the car, as has been testing a two year old Ferrari on slick tyres from a GP2 car.

What do we think? Should Schumacher be allowed to test the current car?

I'm surprised that only Williams and Red Bull did not approve...
it seems that for Ferrari everything is permitted.

Alguersuari is a rookie (and so will be Grosjean) and he didn't have a single test, before making his F1 debut at the Hungaroring.

I think other teams objected too but I only know of Williams and Red Bull for sure...

well i dont see the big deal. its not a championship breaking thing so id say let it slide this time and dont bother overreacting about it. we've already had enough politics and arguing in the last 2 years to last a decade.

i dont tihnk ferrari are trying to be underhanded, i think it is a genuine concern on the part of the team to make sure that schumacher is up to the challenge.

the guy IS forty.

if they start doing tons of extended test runs though then thatd be something else.

If they wanted someone who knew the car to drive it in Valencia they could choose Marc Genč...

they chose Schumacher...they chose a man who drove last in April 2008 and who doesn't know the car.

Exactly, if they weren't sure if Schumacher would be up to the challenge they shouldn't be putting him in the car at all.
