In the simplest terms.
Thanks

A regenerative brake is a mechanism that reduces vehicle speed by converting some of its kinetic energy into another useful form of energy. This captured energy is then stored for future use or fed back into a power system for use by other vehicles.

For example, electrical regenerative brakes in electric railway vehicles feed the generated electricity back into the supply system. In battery electric and hybrid electric vehicles, the energy is stored in a battery or bank of capacitors for later use. Other forms of energy storage which may be used include compressed air and flywheels.

Regenerative braking should not be confused with dynamic braking, which dissipates the electrical energy as heat and thus is less energy efficient.

KERS stands for = Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems

Like in F1 - KERS will cost Heavy drivers like Bourdais, Kubica, Webber, Sutil the ones over 70kg(i think) - So it won't affect Heikki, Heikki's 66kg

Quote:
Niki Lauda has voiced support for the majority of F1 teams that would like to postpone the introduction of expensive Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) in 2009.

In the wake of Honda's exit from the sport citing financial reasons, Mercedes' racing chief Norbert Haug said an immediate way to slash engine budgets by 'at least 25 percent' would be to call off the KERS implementation.

He is not alone in his belief, following several attempts at FOTA meetings this year for a unanimous vote to delay the technology.

It is believed the subject will again arise during the team alliance's meeting with Max Mosley in Monaco on Wednesday, but BMW Sauber is staunchly using its veto vote to insist that the KERS debut remain on track.

Lauda, a former team boss and world champion, said the current conditions makes plugging ahead with KERS illogical.

"The current topic is, for reasons of cost-cutting, using the engines now for three or four races (instead of two),"
he said in interview with the German language sports magazine Kicker.

"At the very same time every team is in the middle of an incredibly difficult development phase, spending 20 or 30 million each, on gaining 80 horse power for a few seconds per lap,"
Lauda added.

FIA President Max Mosley, however, said KERS would be 'the last thing' he would abolish, insisting that other expensive technologies like seamless gearboxes, lightweight materials and ultra high-revving engines do nothing for the sport.

Quote:
A flywheel Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) to be used in Formula 1 in 2009 will be demonstrated for the first time in public at next week’s Autosport International Show.

The energy-recovery devices are legal from next season and Silverstone-based firm Flybrid will display its flywheel system at Birmingham’s NEC from January 8-11.

Visitors to the firm’s engineering stand during the show will be able to see a demonstration of some of the inner working of its full 2009-spec specification KERS unit.

While most teams have opted to develop a battery KERS system, Williams is one team that has decided to go down the flywheel route.

This system will use braking energy to turn a steel and carbon fibre flywheel and when extra power is needed the wheels will be coupled up to the spinning flywheel to give a boost in power.

The Flybrid demonstration will be one of a number of highlights at the Autosport Show, which traditionally kicks off the new motorsport year.

Formula 1 stars who have already confirmed their attendance include the recently retired David Coulthard, McLaren test driver Pedro de la Rosa, commentator Martin Brundle and ex-Super Aguri driver Anthony Davidson.

Coulthard will be attending the two public days of the show, January 10-11, and on display will be cars and karts from his motorsport career, while DC will also be signing autographs in the driver signing section.

I'm giving it a miss this year, been going for the last 6-7 years Razz can't get in on a trade day, and public days are just too busy Sad Plus Andy Priaulx is there for Friday only, so we decided to skip it this year Wink Are you going?
