Reigning GP2 champions ART have confirmed that McLaren protege Lewis Hamilton will race for them this season.

The 21 year-old was widely expected to make the move since testing for the team towards the end of last year. He will join the already confirmed Frenchman Alexandre Premat in the squad.

Hamilton drove for sister team ASM to capture the F3 Euroseries crown in 2005, winning 15 of the series' 20 races.

ART's Nicolas Todt said: "ART GP's first season was exceptional in terms of results, and we are now able to continue our charge in the series with the same dynamics by ensuring we have a pair of exceptional drivers, such as the combination of Premat and Hamilton.

"Lewis has proven in all the lower formulas in which he competed that he has a natural talent for driving and has displayed great professionalism. We are thrilled to be able to count on his pure speed and maturity when it comes to defending both our drivers and constructors crowns."

Hamilton already has his sights set on race wins and possibly the championship in his first season.

He said: "I'm really excited about 2006! It is a great opportunity to be able to be a part of ART. I'm looking forward to it after the fantastic season we had last year and I'm sure the team will do a fantastic job this year.

"My goal is to win races and maybe the championship, if I can. I have to work hard and make sure we maximize the time we have to develop car."

ohhhhh........
I won't say that I don't like Hamilton, he's kinda protege of Ron Dennis, and he knows whom to take care of...
but I don't like Lewis Hamilton Embarassed

they say, if Ron Dennis is not careful, he can lose both Kimi and JPM by the end of 2006, so Lewis Hamilton can be on stand-by... Rolling Eyes

I don't think the words "Ron Dennis" and "is not careful" can live together...I hope (I'm sure) he'll be careful enough not to lose both of his drivers to invite the complete beginner Twisted Evil
