Piquet closes points gap with pole
Nelson Piquet Jr scorched to his sixth pole position of the year to keep his GP2 title ambitions alive and kicking.
The two bonus points the Piquet Sports driver picked up for pole means he is now just eight behind series leader Lewis Hamilton with only tomorrow's feature race and Sunday's sprint left to run.
Piquet's hopes were further boosted by a great late qualifying effort from Giorgio Pantano, who nicked the second front row slot from Hamilton with just minutes of the half hour session remaining.
Hamilton's chance of fighting back was scuppered by Adrian Valles, who had a major shunt at the Parabolica, bringing out waved yellows with just over 90 seconds left on the clock.
This means Hamilton will line up directly behind Piquet tomorrow.
Adam Carroll will start fourth, while Franck Perera took fifth for DAMS.
Alex Premat gave his hopes of keeping third in the standings a shot in the arm with sixth ahead of an impressive Luca Filippi in easily his best showing to date for BCN. |
I may be overreacting a little, don't pay attention to me this weekend
NELSON!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! |

Well, the season is over, and Lewis is a champion. It was tough for Nelson, the things he should have done to win it, and it just didn't happen for him.
But what a season!!! every race was a classic! I'm a bit disappointed that it's all over now, doesn't seem long enough Oh well, something elso to look forward to!! _________________

Well done Lewis, congratulations, etc, etc...
*comforts Nelson* You are the best whatever happens
GP2 is indeed great, I *heart* the series, too sad it's over now, too sad it was the last race for Nelson, which means I won't be able to love GP2 THAT much, but it's good for my nerves
So, continue to support Lucas di Grassi next season! |

How do you manage to organise this?
PS returning to the last race - I think smart Pantano brake tested Lewis in that chicane and thankfully Lewis has more space than some Hill in similar situation provided by some MS in late '95 |
