Qualifying is on now, it's raining, slowest five were decided before the end of the first session.

The McLaren's have updates, Heikki has a new front wing but Lewis has a new everything... how lovely for McLaren to give all of the updates to their clear favourite driver.
Lewis is topping timesheets and it looks like Heikki is going to miss out on the top 10.

Should be exciting anyway...

Even with Lewis's extra upgrades he wasn't that much better than Heikki... maybe it wasn't worth a poor guy having to do a 36 hour shift.
Very happy to see 5 out of 6 Mercedes powered cars in the top 10... including Sutil ahead of the Ferraris. Unlikely to stay there I know, but maybe he can crash into one of them off the start? Or both of them?
Rain forcast tomorrow as well, so we should have an exciting race.

Also, very happy for Mark Webber. He deserves it.

Webber has had bad luck throughout his all career, and he has always been showing a lot of talent. Hopefully tomorrow he will make it to the first, well-deserved victory. There is also Adrian Sutil, who has shown some extra-ordinary performances in rain, and today's qualifying was no exception. Let's hope that at the start he stays in front of the KERS-equipped Ferraris, and then with more fuel stays in front of them till the end of the race. If it's gonna rain, he even stands a chance of being on podium, I belive. The only two drivers that I think are unbeatable tomorrow by any other driver, if it's gonna rain and they don't make mistakes, are Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel. With light Brawns the fight for third will be wide open. But, all of that is only assuming, as it just might be an unpredictable rainy race.
And I'm quite happy for Kovalainen, finally finding some pace. Let's hope for a good race, maybe he can get on podium, as he has KERS on 6th, which is a nice thing.

yeah great news for webber Very Happy

and i think its really unfair that lewis gets all of the new parts ahead of heikki but the new parts didn't really produce a much better result than the old parts....expecially considering that heikki was on a heavier fuel load
heikki's showing some brilliant pace Very Happy

It's always been like that... Lewis was favourite to Fernando when he was in McLaren and so is to Heikki.

Anyway great performance by Mark Webber (really deserved first pole position Very Happy ) and for McLaren and Mercedes-Benz.

I think Lewis will be on the podium today. Heikki can be 6th or 7th, because he doesn't have the updates, so he has less aerodynamic grip than Lewis and on wet it's not going to be easy for him.

Wooo, a point for Heikki.
Shame about Lewis's puncture.

Well done to Webber, although I don't think he should have got that penalty, he had to move over to avoid being hit by the McLaren going at a stupid speed off the start.

And as for Raikkonen and Sutil... does Raikkonen have a problem with him? I said when Sutil came out in front of Raikkonen that it wasn't a good place for him to be.
Why did the FIA only investigate it after the race? I thought they only left it until after the race if it was in the last 10 laps or something.
Raikkonen has to recieve some sort of penalty... a grid drop at Hungary perhaps? Otherwise it would not have been fair for Webber to be penalised. And it would spark back up the Ferrari favouritism conspiracy that has been a running feature of the last few years.

All in all, a good exciting race. Well worth sitting in front of the TV for.

Is Bourdais going to be replaced? I hadn't heard anything about that until today...
About time too if I'm honest. He's constantly being outperformed by his rookie teammate. He was rubbish last year and he's rubbish this year.

Oh, and I didn't mention yesterday... well done to Piquet for out-qualifying Alonso for the first time ever Smile

Great race. I'm very glad that Webber made it, as he deserved it. Too bad Sutil has had back luck again. Both McLarens had an amazing start. Too bad Lewis didn't make it through the first corner without a mistake.

No action taken against Raikkonen. Hardly seems fair to me.

So the poll should now say 'Should Raikkonen have been penalised?'

it was so good to hear the australian anthem....but i don't get it, the second verse was really random...i doubt its even part of the original thing coz it sounds nothing like the full anthem
the melody of the second verse is supposed to be exactly the same as the first...not all random like that Confused

anyway i think they should replace bourdais..he's not doing well at all

When Ferrari is under investigation no penalty is ever given to their drivers Exclamation

Sutil has been the unluckiest driver up now...

Webber deserved this win and I agree with Minimarshmellow... there was no need to give him a drive through. At the start he was sandwiched by Lewis and Barrichello... and what a pity for Hamilton...a podium could have been possible Sad

Heikki did a great job during the first stint and got one point..even with the old-spec McLaren... I'm looking forward to Hungary Smile

As for Bourdais, I don't think he's going to be replaced...he has only one point less than Buemi...and in Hungary the Toro Rosso will have the same upgrade as Red Bull...so I think he deserves the chance to try and get some points in the second half of the season. Wink

Please note that Sutil has effectively taken responsibility for the contact:

It was just a racing incident. Not every mix-up on track needs to be addressed by way of penalty.

Can anyone tell me why they had Heikki pit from 3rd? I thought it was early for them to bring him in. Was he having tire issues or something? I have completely missed any reason that might have been given.

Hola.

Nice race, after 3 or 4 boring races, we had some action on the track. Besides that, Brawn-Mercedes is showing some weaknesses and Red Bull is reducing the differences, so both championships are still on the air. That's a good point in this bad season.

Ferrari and Rosberg (Who seems to be able to be more regular recently) can beat Brawn-Mercedes. They've done it twice in a row, and that's something which was difficult to believe a month ago, so we have another good point.

Alonso drove magnifically and so do Heikki, this is the driver I wanted (And want) for McLaren. Very consistent, regular, no mistakes and getting a point under the circustances he was, it's an outstanding result. In Hungary, with the new car (For him) and the track, which is empty of high-speed corners, maybe he can fight for top-5. But we will see, I am optimist.

Heikki is doing great in the last races (Taking into account the car he is driving), I hope Haug's German desires won't come true and he will continue in the team instead of Rosberg (Or Vettel). Both of them are drivers I like... but I am a loyal man.

This is the answer from TheFifthDriver's Twitter page:

"Don't know the exact reasons, but Heikki burnt off a lot of fuel by running several laps-to-grid on Sunday"

I don't know what he wants to say by "laps-to-grid"... are those the formation and warm-up lap? Question

I guess it was a part of his strategy. He was the 8. heaviest before those laps-to-grid, which are laps driven before the warm-up one. Fernando Alonso and Heikki did some more laps than the other drivers, so I think they wanted to burn off some fuel.
