It was just a racing incident. Not every mix-up on track needs to be addressed by way of penalty.

Oh thank you. I have been thinking Iīm the only one who doesnīt blame Kimi for that. As you said, it was just a race incident, nothing more. I donīt agree with such a big level of investigation we could have sene last year. They should investigate only contacts that are not pure racing incidents. And this one was nothing more than just a silly attempt to overtake Kimi which was not succesful.

I was personally there, at Nurburgring, watching the race from a tribune very close to that "Yokohama S" turn. From my point of view, if you really need to blame anyone, than blame Adrian. Kimi was just racing, Sutil was returning from the pitlane so he should thought twice if there is enough place for two cars Wink

I think it's better if the FIA doesn't give so many penalties as last year... but last year I think a penalty would have been given...

one of the most unfair penalties in my opinion was the one to Bourdais for the accident with Massa in Japan... and it was a similar case to the Sutil-Kimi one.

Anyway I hope that the FIA won't give anymore so many penalties to the wrong driver Wink

This is the answer from TheFifthDriver's Twitter page:

"Don't know the exact reasons, but Heikki burnt off a lot of fuel by running several laps-to-grid on Sunday"

I don't know what he wants to say by "laps-to-grid"... are those the formation and warm-up lap? Question

I guess it was a part of his strategy. He was the 8. heaviest before those laps-to-grid, which are laps driven before the warm-up one. Fernando Alonso and Heikki did some more laps than the other drivers, so I think they wanted to burn off some fuel.

I didn't know that... how many laps can drivers do before the start of the race?

I didnīt know neither, it was the first time I saw this. Maybe because TV channels donīt broadcast these pre-race actions. I think the drivers are not limited by the number of laps but the time they are given...

Obviously drivers have to do a lap to the grid so they are always burning off that much fuel to get around, but if a driver wants to they can do more laps before the start of the race (normally if it has rained the night before or something and they want to get a better feel of the track at the expense of their fuel) but they have to then come back into the pit lane to go back out for another lap so they don't cause any disruption to all of the people on the grid. Once they go down the pit straight they have to stay in their grid box till the formation lap. Of course they are restricted by time, they have to be on the grid in enough time for the start of the race.
It's not very commonly done, expecially by those in the top 10 who have to qualify on their fuel loads... why would you carry extra fuel in qualifying and then not even use it to go longer in the first stint? If you're going to have a shorter first stint you may as well have had a higher grid slot...
Hope this makes sense...
