I more liked it, when he drove for Renault. It was more interesting to watch races, where he fought incredibly and was showing his talent race after race with beating Giancarlo and scoring points with a slow Renault. It's a big waste of his talent, to drive like that. It's better to be number 2 than 22, but number 2 is still not good. He has a chance now at 3 new teams, I hope he will drive for one of them. Hopefully not McLaren.
The best option would be Toyota. I would love to see my favourite 2 drivers at my favourite team. Glock and Kovalainen at Toyota. That would be great. |

Sharing team with Hamilton is never the best place. First comparations are always made with your team mate and Hamilton is very fast and a very good driver.
If Heikki has a minimum option to stay in McLaren, he will stay. He likes the team and he knows that McLaren is one of the best teams on the grid, so your chances of getting results are higher.
This sums up my thoughts:

|
|
| Quote: | Former McLaren racer Mika Hakkinen has expressed surprise that the Woking-based team is on the search for a new driver. The Mercedes-powered team, driven by Hakkinen to back to back championships in 1998 and 1999, is openly contemplating a new team-mate for Lewis Hamilton.
But Hakkinen told Germany's Auto Bild that McLaren should retain his countryman Heikki Kovalainen.
"They're looking for a driver? Really? I didn't know," he joked while trackside at the DTM finale in Hockenheim.
While the leading candidate for Kovalainen's seat is another Finn, Kimi Raikkonen, Hakkinen believes Kovalainen's contribution to McLaren is underrated. "It's never one person who makes a big operation fantastically successful, it is teamwork," he insisted.
"If you look at the performances of Lewis and Heikki, you have to look not only at the black and white race results, but also what happens in the background," said Hakkinen.
"Those two do a fantastic job," he added, before adding: "Looking for a new driver? Why should they do that?"

And I agree 10000000% with Mika!! Heikki's contribution to the team has been very important. I can't prove that, but I am very sure.
I thought I was the only one who considered the 'behind the scenes' work important in a team. Unfortunately, in F1, results mark almost everything, specially for fans.
Heikki's results hasn't been very good, ok, but ''light plus light can give darkness''. In 2007 the results on the track were very good, but at the end we get nothing for 'non-track' reasons.
In 2008, with a good environment, good evolutions, constant work, we were able to get the WDC. And in 2009 after an awful beginning, look where we are going to finish.
You always produce more of yourself when you feel confortable in your work place and I think we can 'blame' Heikki a bit for that . That says good things about him. |
