i read an article a while ago which attempted to explain the difference between heikki and kimi's personalities as portrayed in the media

it said something about people from the north of finland being happy and people from the south being 'frosty'

did anyone else see this?

You probably mean this?: "Laplanders are generally amiable folk, less frosty than their compatriots from down south".

Well.. I hate putting people in any boxes of generalise anything on where they are from. But I think that countryside people generally can be a little bit different than people who live in big cities, in every country. At least they often seem to behave different to others which is natural. Thatīs what a reporter probably is trying to say in that article?

Kimi is from Espoo. Itīs near from Helsinki but itīs not a "real" city. Itīs more a suburb of Helsinki which is built VERY sparse.
In Finland we donīt have too many people altogether Smile The biggest difference between Espoo and Suomussalmi is that in Espoo population is about 200,000, Suomussalmi less than 15,000. So, in Heikkiīs hometown almost everybody knows each other somehow, itīs a thing that makes people act different than city people. Iīve lived in both places so thatīs my conclusion about that. Heikki seems to be just like most people there, very social and talkative. Always "present" when talking to someone.

And.. Suomussalmi is NOT in Lapland Confused . Lapland is to north from Arctic Circle which is near Rovaniemi.

I think that this is just a simple picture which media created for people....they say that Kimi and Heikki are different because theyīre from another parts of Finland. But I guess itīs a bullsh*t.

Stereotypes are usually stupid. But of course itīs a fact that the environment where we grow up influence what kind of person we become. But Finland is too little country for big differences.
Any others here who have studied psychology? Very Happy
We hear those stereotypes usually. One funny which comes to mind is that danish people are happy, friendly and positive all the time. Well, after visiting in Copenhagen I agree with that. Itī funny how they really come close everywhere and start talking to you.
I was sitting beside one danish man in Monza GP this summer. As you all know it was raining all the weekend. I was pissed off, drinking my beer under that raincoat. The biggest reason WHY I was pissed was not a rain (In Finland it rains almost every day) but because I had heard that race will be started behind a safety car, what is worst thing that can happen in Monza if you are seated near the first chicane. Confused I was swearing some finnish f-words words which can not be written here, water everywhere, and what does this danish man? He looks at me, smile on his face says that " In Denmark we call this kind of weather high humidity".
One more positive danish, I thought. Laughing

I study psychology and sociology.
Of course where you are from has an impact on how you act and the person you are. Everything around you makes up your identity.
But also the stereotypes that you are given affect your identity too. Kimi and Heikki may fit their respective stereotypes of where they are from, not because that's what people from there are like, but because that's what people from there are supposed to be like. It's the self-fulfilling prophecy. Like when teenagers are stereotypically troublemakers, a lot of them are just because they're expected too. Kimi is expected to be 'frosty' and not talk to reporters, so that's how he is. Heikki is expected to be more friendly and responsive because he's from the North, and that's just how he is.
I'm not saying this is true, its just one of the main theories of personality.

Everything of course : his driving style, his beauty, and his personality (sympathy, humility)
