does anyone know where Bruno Senna is going next season, he said he might be going to Toro Rosso but i think he wants the race seat at McLaren like Ayrton(correct me if im wrong, i'm bad at history in F1)

i don't think Bruno will be able to get a race seat at McLaren anytime now because Heikki is Confirmed for 2009 and Lewis's Contract has been extended to 2010/2012.

i was just thinkin if Heikki & Kimi would work out in Ferrari & Massa should get his super licensed stripped off him so he's kicked out formula 1. I HATE FELIPE MASSA. Sorry to Brazillians but i jus can't tolerate him.

It would be good to see him in torro rosso, theyve turned themselves around this season, even outpacing some of the bigger teams. plus TR need some decent drivers to fill the gap left by vettel, and bourdais needs alot more time to hone his skills.

i think he'll go to toro rosso unless honda ditch barichello for 2009

i think bourdais should be retained at toro rosso bacause he hasn't really gotten many chances to show what he can really do

I'm not sure but the full story is below about his test:

Quote:
When Super Aguri shut down following April’s Spanish Grand Prix, Takuma Sato’s Formula One career hit the rocks. Not much changed until September, when Toro Rosso came knocking as they started considering replacements for Sebastian Vettel. Sato’s performance at that Jerez test was convincing enough to get him invited back to Barcelona this week, where he has not disappointed - fastest on day one, second fastest on day two. Will it be enough to get him on the grid for 2009? Only time will tell…

Q: Takuma, it’s been a while since you drove a Formula One car. How did it feel to be back in an F1 cockpit again?
Takuma Sato: I am really happy. In the last six or seven months I haven’t really driven an F1 car, as the September test with Toro Rosso was overshadowed by rain and I could only do three hours in the morning. But although it was just a brief encounter it gave me a good idea of how the car behaves, so this one and a half days' testing for Toro Rosso, working with a very focused team, was very, very enjoyable for me.

Q: What have you been doing in the time since the Spanish Grand Prix, Super Aguri’s last race? Did you ever give up hope of landing another Formula One seat?
TS: I never gave up. I always hoped. I had no intention whatsoever to retire from F1 and my manager really worked hard to find me a way back into a cockpit and I really appreciate that Toro Rosso is giving me that opportunity. Now it is up to the team to decide. I am extremely excited with the test and hopefully I can find a way back into Formula One in ‘09.

Q: What was your take on the decline of Super Aguri? There was always hope that at the last minute a white knight would come to the rescue…
TS: We always knew that we were in a difficult situation all the time, but I never expected that it would finish as it did. It was a sad moment, of course, as I had been with the team from day one. It was a small, but very competitive, team. The financial situation was always very critical as it is so hard to survive as a private team, but you have to accept the whole process, although it’s a real shame. It was a sad moment, but I see many ex-Aguri team members in the paddock now with other teams, which shows that we did a good job, otherwise other teams would not hire them.

Q: After your Jerez test for Toro Rosso in September you have been invited back again to compete for one of their seats, so you obviously left a positive impression…
TS: Well, originally it was not planned for me to test for Toro Rosso in September, but the opportunity came up and as someone wanting to return to F1 the priority is to always be ready. My impression was that the chemistry was good - and that led to this test.

Q: The team has two cockpits - and three drivers ‘competing’ for them. How do you see your chances in what seems to be a shoot-out?
TS: I don’t know, really. But if I told you that I’m not thinking about it all the time then it would be a lie. It is pressure as we all compete for an F1 cockpit, but all you can do really is to put in your best performance - maximize what you have to offer, including getting in close contact with the engineers, and simply try to get the best out of your chance. And I really hope that I will see them again. There is not much more I can do.

Q: You are the oldest and most experienced of the three candidates. Will that count in your favour?
TS: It is always a matter what kind of driver a team wants. If they are looking for someone with experience and good racing speed then I have given them more than a 100 percent. Now I have to wait for their decision.

Q: You have been testing a car that shocked the Formula One world this year with an unexpected win at Monza, helping Toro Rosso to sixth in the constructors’ championship ahead of Red Bull Racing, Williams and Honda. That surely means it’s the best F1 car you’ve driven…
TS: It would be a little inappropriate for me to judge other cars, as I have to respect all the manufacturers and the teams, but obviously this is the best car I have ever driven - you could easily see that from the speed. I really enjoyed driving the STR3. Toro Rosso is not one of the big teams, but they made a huge leap forward performance-wise in the second half of the season and this test gave me a brief insight into how the team works and how it was possible for them to raise their game on such a big scale.

Q: After this test you are left on stand-by for next season. When will you know whether you’ve landed a Toro Rosso race seat?
TS: I don’t think that Toro Rosso is in any rush to make a decision, so my guess would be at the end of the year, or even at the beginning of next year. All I can do now is wait, as I have done my job already.

Q: If you miss out, do you have a ‘plan B’ for furthering your racing career?
TS: So far, to be honest, no. I was always looking for a possibility to return to F1, but if there is an absolute zero chance then I have to consider other racing categories. But until that happens I don’t even want to think about any plan B.

but on the other side, Sebastien Buemi says this:

Quote:
This week GP2 driver Sebastien Buemi, former Super Aguri racer Takuma Sato and ’08 incumbent Sebastien Bourdais are all slogging it out at the Barcelona test in the hope of securing the chance to race for Toro Rosso in 2009. On Monday, Sato drew first blood, setting the fastest time of all 17 runners at the Spanish track, but Buemi was just three-tenths down on the vastly more experienced Japanese driver. We caught up with the 20 year-old to talk about his hopes for this week's test and beyond…

Q: Sebastien, this Barcelona test could be your ticket to a permanent race seat for next season. Are you prepared for the challenge?
Sebastien Buemi: I hope so! I am doing my best, trying to be as fast as possible and work as closely as possible with the team. Monday was a really good day, as we managed to do everything that we had planned - and I am looking forward to the rest of the test. I know how important this test is for my future, but the trick is not to think too much about it, because in the end, whether you do think about it or not, it doesn’t change anything. So I prefer to keep my head clear and just give my best performance.

Q: Two cockpits are available and there are three drivers competing. At 20, you are the youngster, whilst your competitors bring a great deal of experience to the table. What do you think you can bring to the team?
SB: I am young and I learn quickly. I think that all teams now try to have an experienced driver and a young driver, as you see for example, at Renault. The immediate past has shown that the young guys don’t need too long to deliver results. It’s not like in the past, when there was the thinking that if you want results you’d better take someone with experience. Lately, young drivers have shown that they can deliver almost straight away. The team will analyse everything before they make a decision - then we’ll see.

Q: Toro Rosso just enjoyed a sensational season with young driver Sebastian Vettel. Could that help pave your way to the seat?
SB: Well, that certainly doesn’t go against me. I’m trying to do a good job and now I hope I can reproduce what he did this season. And also try to learn as much as possible from him - as we are all part of the Red Bull family.

Q: Considering all the ‘Sebs’ who have driven at Red Bull and Toro Rosso, it seems that your name holds a certain advantage...
SB: Probably. But to be serious, I think it is just a coincidence, although quite a unique one! And fact is, it’s a good name…

Q: You are familiar with the STR3, so what is your impression of how the test is going? What is your gut feeling? Are you doing enough to convince Toro Rosso co-owner Gerhard Berger to sign you?
SB: All I know is that I need to be fast. He wants the best combination possible for his team, which is completely normal, and I need to show him that I deserve the place. I need to be fast. I need to be focused, I need to do anything to suggest that I would deliver good results - I need to demonstrate to him how much I want that seat. And boy, I really want it!

Q: Should he decide in your favour, would it be tricky to step into the cockpit of Vettel?
SB: Well, that would be difficult, of course. He had an amazing season and it will be up to me to do everything I can to fill his shoes. Should the decision be made in my favour, I would move to Italy to be as close as possible to the team - and work with them as hard as I can.

Q: When will the team decide about their driver line-up? Have they hinted to you?
SB: No, they didn’t tell me. I don’t know how long it will take. It’s a difficult situation but I'm trying to only really think about this test and not about what might happen, as in the end it is just a matter of doing a good job.

Q: If the shootout doesn’t work out for you - what will do in 2009?
SB: I think I will then do another season in GP2. If I have to do a second year, then I will do it - if that is what it takes to be in Formula One. I will do everything that I can do.

Q: If you do succeed, you’ll be the first Swiss Formula One driver for a long time. Is that inspiring?
SB: There hasn’t been a Swiss driver in Formula One for so long that it would be fantastic. But honestly, there is no extra motivation necessary, as I am 120 percent focused on landing an F1 seat!

PostPosted: Fri Nov 21, 2008 4:08 pm    Post subject: How good is Bruno Senna? Reply with quote

Quote:
A legendary name returned to the cockpit of a Formula 1 car at the recent Barcelona test, when GP2 star Bruno Senna – nephew of the late, great Ayrton – was given his first proper F1 test as part of Honda’s driver evaluation exercise for 2009.

In his latest feature for itv.com/f1, Mark Hughes explains why it would be wrong to assume that Senna is only in the running because of his family history, and in fact is a genuinely exciting talent whose achievements so far belie his inexperience.

But he also argues that the incumbent veteran whose drive is in jeopardy, Rubens Barrichello, still has a lot to offer.

Bruno Senna pronounced himself satisfied with his Honda test earlier in the week after pounding around for a full day alongside Jenson Button.

This followed a similar test the day before with Senna’s fellow Brazilian and GP2 rival Lucas di Grassi.

They were each given plenty of running, two new sets of tyres and on comparable fuel loads to Button. For the record Senna was 0.3s off Button on the day, di Grassi 0.5s.

They are in effect being auditioned for the 2009 race seat alongside Button, potentially replacing Rubens Barrichello.

Some have questioned why Senna, a driver that failed to win titles in either F3 or GP2, warrants such opportunities – implying that he’s there only because of the drawing power of his surname, the family link to his late great uncle Ayrton and of course the fabulous history between Ayrton and Honda.

But that’s grossly unfair.

Whilst it’s undoubtedly true that the name has helped create opportunities, that it potentially makes any team he drives for a very attractive proposition for sponsors, his progress as a driver in the few short years he’s been racing has been extremely impressive.

Bruno had just begun kart racing as an eight year old when Ayrton died. A year later Bruno’s father was killed in a motorcycle accident and at Viviane Senna’s understandable insistence, Bruno’s racing activities were halted. Apparently permanently.

At 20, old enough to decide his own destiny, he announced he was going to take up motor racing, much to the family’s surprise.

After a few exploratory events in Brazil he moved to the UK in 2004, competed in a handful of Formula BMW and Renault events before making the big jump to F3.

Into the second half of the season he was scoring podium finishes and he followed it up in 2005 with runner-up position in the British championship.

This is way more impressive than it sounds. Virtually every one of the guys he was racing against there had a decade or more of racing experience, most of them in karts by the time they were 10.

Bruno was still learning aspects of racing when he was in F3 that most of these guys had picked up as kids.

Furthermore, the step up to the grip of an F3 car from the nursery formulae is enormous.

Jacques Villeneuve made a similar step back in 1990, moving into the Italian F3 series with very little previous experience – and was hopelessly, and understandably, off the pace. Only in his second year of the formula did Jacques even begin to look competitive.

Bruno adapted much quicker than Jacques, who went onto become a world champion. So let’s not be too hasty.

It was a similar story as Bruno moved up to GP2 in 2007.

One and a bit seasons in F3 and virtually nothing else would not really be considered adequate preparation for the very serious power and grip of a GP2 car that is actually more physically demanding than an F1 machine.

He wasn’t initially a front-runner but he was quick at times and you could see him evolving almost by the race.

He was always very quick in the wet, and had taken some very impressive wet-weather victories in F3 – a sure sign that there is a good level of talent underlying a driver’s performances.

Into 2008 and he was always a front-runner, fighting for the title from beginning to end.

The guy is still developing at a faster rate than those around him – for very obvious reasons.

That’s not to say his ultimate ceiling will necessarily be higher, but what we do know is that even still on a steep learning curve he’s already one of the fastest guys outside of F1, and that after just his fourth season of racing of any kind he can lap an F1 car competitively.

On that basis alone, he’s an exciting prospect, regardless of his surname.

But spare a thought for the guy he could be replacing, a driver who’d already been in F1 a year when eight-year old Bruno had his first kart race, yet who this year was still performing as well as he’s ever done.

Barrichello has a more adaptable driving style than Button, allowing him to drive around a bad car’s problems better.

He’s also very, very good at analysing the dynamics of a car and enabled Honda to learn things Button hadn’t uncovered.

That latter skill has been a bit wasted with the awful cars Honda has provided with for the past two years, but it just might be a very valuable trait next year, with the first design presided over by Ross Brawn.

For this reason, the team will have probably been paying very close attention to the quality of Senna’s feedback during his test.

Di Grassi is renowned for his great analytical approach and it can be taken as read he will have passed that test with flying colours.

Senna’s a bright, intelligent guy, totally immersed in his racing, and it would be surprising indeed if he hadn’t also passed the technical test.

See what odds you can get for him getting that drive – and put your money down.

Quote:
Bruno Senna's ambitions of becoming a Formula One driver next year should become a reality, according to the Brazilian.

A test drive with Honda in late 2008 failed to materialise into a race seat when the Japanese carmaker pulled out of F1, with Ross Brawn taking over the team and opting to keep experienced drivers Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello instead for 2009.

"It was frustrating not to get the drive, especially because I was quite close to it," Senna recently told the media at a PR event in Abu Dhabi. "But that's motor racing, you have to learn how to deal with difficult times and there are plenty of them in your career."

Since then the 2008 GP2 vice-champion has taken on Le Mans Series events this year, reaching the podium twice in three races. The experience will prove helpful in adapting to F1's upcoming refuelling ban: "Now I know how to save fuel, save tyres, and it's going to be important for next year.

"But the best preparation would be to be in Formula One, definitely," added triple World Champion Ayrton Senna's nephew.

Contact has been made with two of the four new teams expected to begin their F1 forays next season, Campos and Manor, with the latter outfit linked with Virgin as a major sponsor or co-owner.
Senna is not hiding his preference for an established team however, with Force India among the options.

"If the proposal is right, I would prefer to be in a team that's currently there; it's a much less risky option," Senna, who will celebrate his 26th birthday next week, explained. "There are many variables in a new team coming into Formula One."

Senna revealed that he is very close to signing one of the "good offers on the table" and gave himself a 90% chance of racing in F1 next season.

"I think Formula One is in a tough moment, with many drivers on the market and that doesn't make it easy for drivers outside of Formula One to get it," Senna said. "But luckily with the new teams there are more slots; it's getting close."

Senna hopes to be in a position to announce a deal by the time F1 gathers at his home round next week to prepare for the Brazilian Grand Prix, the penultimate race of the season.
