The French newspaper.
F1 history is full of such things...
In these cases, I never believe in official statements.

All that shows is him pressing a button. And it looks like a deliberate movement by his thumb, not his finger slipping on the wheel as reported in the newspaper.
The official report does admit they don't really know what happened though, so I guess we'll never know. _________________ Mark, Lewis, Heikki --> My ideal podium for the 2007 season.

A deliberate movement... pressing the Neutral button?

I also vote for the slip of the finger. If you see which button he is pressing on in that video, that really looks like the neutral button...
I also thought that he just wanted a drink, but what's a bit strange to me is: why do you want to drink in the corner?? In a corner you need to carefully turn the wheel, isn't is much easier to drink on the straight which comes right after a corner??? Now I have never driven a F1 car so don't blame me if it's a stupid slip of my mind:wink:, but I was just wondering. Maybe Lewis did press neutral on purpose, because the team have seen something wrong on the telemetrie and told him to press neutral. But than again, Lewis said it was his mistake I guess we will never know... _________________ If you think racing is safe, than you're not going fast enough... |

Forgive me for not knowing exactly what button is where on the steering wheel; all I was doing was commenting on the video that was originally posted.
I still think it looks like a deliberate movement of his thumb as I originally said, but as has also been commented on, who knows which button he was actually aiming for.
If it was his mistake by hitting neutral, then it still doesn't explain why he came into the pitlane so slowly the first time. That in itself indicates that there was an issue with the systems and that they didn't trust the speed limiter was going to work correctly.
Regardless of whether it was a mistake on Lewis' part or not this time, it does seem slightly strange to have such an important button as the neutral button so close to the drinks button which is used so frequently throughout the race, doesn't it? _________________ Mark, Lewis, Heikki --> My ideal podium for the 2007 season.

Yes, but he should have pressed it on the straight.
Turning with the neutral... |

Maybe Stepney didn't send McLaren the picture of Ferrari steering wheel... |

I was just wondering if Kimi already had some Italian lessons yet, just like schummel did. Kimi speaking Italian would probably sound extremely funny
